LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – With summer temperatures already pushing into the 90s, the West Ohio Community Action Partnership (WOCAP) is preparing to help residents stay cool through its annual Summer Crisis Program.

Beginning July 1, the program will provide a one-time benefit to eligible residents seeking cooling assistance. Applicants must reside in Allen, Auglaize, or Mercer counties and meet income requirements at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

“This benefit is designed for households with someone 60 years or older, someone with a medical condition that requires air conditioning—which just needs a note from a doctor, and we have a form they can use—or for households that have received a disconnect notice or have already been shut off due to unpaid electric bills,” said Kris Keller, WOCAP Community Services Director.

Beginning July 1, the program will provide a one-time benefit to eligible residents seeking cooling assistance.

The assistance includes up to $500 toward electric bills or up to $1,500 for repairs to a central air conditioning unit. There is also a separate benefit available for those needing an air conditioning unit in addition to monetary assistance. Applications can be picked up at WOCAP’s office or downloaded from their website. To avoid delays, officials urge applicants to submit all required documentation with their application.
