LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The West Ohio Food Bank is asking community members to consider volunteering this summer as the organization experiences its annual decline in volunteer participation.

Food bank officials say volunteer numbers typically decrease during the summer months as families take vacations and students are out of school. However, the need to provide food assistance throughout the region remains steady.

The organization is encouraging anyone with free time to lend a hand, whether for a single hour, a day or on a recurring basis.

"Get a hold of us here at the West Ohio Food Bank. We have plenty of opportunities for folks to get credited volunteer hours just to kill some time on a regular summertime day. We'll find something for you here to do at the food bank," said Jason Aldrich, communications and public relations manager for the West Ohio Food Bank.

Aldrich said the food bank works with volunteers to find positions that best match their interests and availability. Opportunities are available for individuals seeking community service hours, regular volunteer work or simply a way to give back to the community.

Those interested in volunteering can call the West Ohio Food Bank at (419) 222-7946 for more information or visit the organization's offices on East Kibby Street.
