American Paint Recyclers looking to expand

For Josh Brinkman, selling recycled paint is more than just a business. It’s an environmentally green thing to do.

In 2013 we first told you about Brinkman’s business, who he runs along with his brother Jeremy.

The brothers set up with operations in a barn on Middle Point Wetzel Road, and originally started as an inexpensive way to repaint the apartments they own in the area.

“We have rental properties together and we were always looking for inexpensive ways to rehab and remodel after tenants would leave so we were mixing our old latex paint cans together to repaint those units,” said Josh Brinkman.

American Paint Recyclers now sells their latex paint in restores in several states.

“Back when we had an interview back in 2013, we were just in the Lima Habitat ReStore working on Findlay and we got into the Findlay store and the customers feedback was just great so the Habitat ReStore managers spoke with other managers promoting our product as we did also and it didn’t take long but we’re right now in six states and approximately 50 to 60 Habitat ReStore locations,” said Brinkman.

And they’ve gone from a two man operation and now have eight employees….they used to have only three colors now they have 15...

And they hope to move from their 8 thousand foot barn to a bigger facility.

“Right now we’re looking into something in the line of 15 to 20 thousand square feet in the Van Wert County area,” said Brinkman.

And the paint continues to be a popular item on ReStore shelves.

“Yeah, EcoTone is a really good seller and we have a good relationship with American Paint Recyclers and they help us with our overused latex paint that we can’t use on the shelves. We send it to them and they recycle it and it comes back in the EcoTone paint", said ReStore Assistant Manager Ted Spencer.
