ROCKFORD, OHIO (WLIO) - An Indiana man was killed after his car slid under a semi-trailer in rural Mercer County Saturday morning.

According to Sheriff Jeff Grey, deputies were called out to the intersection of state routes 49 and 707 just after 10:30 am. They say that 44-year-old Kenneth Edwards of Decatur, Indiana, failed to stop at the stop sign and ran into a semi-trailer being pulled by 61-year-old Christopher McKenzie of Louisiana. Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office reconstruction team was called in to investigate the crash.

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that deputies are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred this morning, September 7th. Mercer County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at 10:40 AM of a crash at the intersection of St Rte 49 and St Rte 707 in Blackcreek Township.
The investigation revealed that Kenneth A Edwards (44) of Decatur, IN was driving a 2016 black Chevy SUV, traveling eastbound on St Rte 707. Christopher D Mckenzie (61) of Jeaneretta, LA was driving a 2023 white Kenworth semi-tractor and trailer, traveling southbound on St Rte 49. Edwards ran the stop sign at the intersection of St Rte 707 and St Rte 49, striking Mckenzie’s semi-trailer on the passenger side. Mr. Edwards was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Chatt Fire Department, Rockford Fire Department, Rockford EMS, Celina EMS and MCERV.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene. This crash remains under investigation at this time and will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
