An annual dinner in Lima Tuesday night honored workers who have died or suffered illness or injuries on the job.
The annual Workers Memorial Day dinner was hosted by the West Central Ohio AFL-CIO. Labor leaders, officials and local workers at the dinner watched documentary film "All in a Day's Work" which explores the troubling issues that led to the death of one young worker and how the industry is putting millions of American workers at risk. Reports show Ohio workplace deaths are on the rise.
"It's about ensuring that when a worker leaves home, he returns back to his loved ones the way he left that morning. This dinner is renewing our commitment, if you will, to reach out to our elected officials and also working with management," said Jeff Kranz, President, AFL-CIO.
Participants called on local, state and national leaders to pursue policies that will not expose them to unnecessary risks in the workplace, and renewed their fight for stronger protections for workers across the country.
