April 1st is the deadline to challenge home appraisals in Allen County

ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - If you think your house has been valued too high by the county, time is running out to challenge it.

April 1st is the deadline to challenge home appraisals in Allen County

The Allen County Board of Revision has a deadline of Monday, April 1st, at 4:30 p.m. for any individual who wants to question the value that the county has assessed their property at in 2023, which is what your property taxes for 2024 are based on. It was a mass appraisal, which means that the interior of your home was not taken into account. If you feel that your property was valued too high, there are steps you can take to try and get it lowered.

"The important thing for homeowners to remember is they need to have evidence. So the burden of proof is on the homeowner to show us why that value should be lower. Is it the interior condition of the house has really disintegrated? There are things that need done? Is there a hole in the back roof of the section we didn't know about? Just let us know what's going on with their property. Pictures are great. Appraisals are wonderful," commented Rachael Gilroy, Allen County Auditor.

The deadline is Monday, April 1st, at 4:30 p.m. You can find the paperwork needed to be filled out on the Allen County Auditor's website at https://www.allencountyohauditor.com/. Again, this is just to challenge the value of your home, and they can't talk about or do anything about your taxes.
