Arriaga jury trial to begin in West Virginia

A trial is set to begin for a Delphos man charged in the fatal shooting of a former coal executive in West Virginia.

Jury selection is getting underway Monday in Mingo County, West Virginia for the trial of 22-year-old Anthony Arriaga. Arriaga and 20-year-old Brandon Fitzpatrick, of Louisa, Kentucky are charged with murder in the 2016 death of Bennett Hatfield. Authorities say the 59-year-old Hatfield was visiting his wife's grave when he was shot. Prosecutors say the men killed Hatfield as part of a scheme to steal his vehicle and sell its parts.

Following the shooting, Arriaga fled back to Delphos, where local law enforcement arrested him and held him until he could be returned to West Virginia.
