WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) – Families in Auglaize County spent Saturday morning learning about health and wellness in a fun way, thanks to the Grand Lake Health System.
The organization hosted its third annual Kids’ Health Fair at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds. Each year, the event features a different theme, and this year’s was a “Kids Carnival of Health,” complete with bouncy houses, live animals, and other activities. While children enjoyed games and attractions, parents received important information about health resources available in the community.
“So that's our biggest goal here, is to make sure that when these parents come, they walk away and they have a lot of information that they can take home. Things that they might not have known about before. That's our biggest takeaway from this, is that we want them to go home with a lot of resources and that type of thing,” said Heather Jurosic, PCMH health coordinator at Grand Lake Health System.

Parents could also take advantage of free screenings for their children to check for potential issues in areas such as vision, hearing and developmental progress.
“We have a lot of kids that might not get screened prior to school, so we want to make sure that their hearing gets checked, vision gets checked, speech is checked, any developmental issues, and we get those addressed before they get to school. And that's why we want to have this event, is that we catch these things early, and we help the parents out, and then if they do have the issues, then we can come in here to our vendors, and we can get them the resources that they might need,” Jurosic said.
Organizers say they continue to add new activities and demonstrations each year to make the Kids’ Health Fair bigger and better.
