Family and friends of the late honorary Lima Police Officer Maleek Nelson gathered Saturday to honor him on his birthday. A balloon release celebration was held today outside the nelson home. This was in honor of Maleek Nelson who would have been 10 years old today. In October of 2018, he passed away due to a heart condition. The family thought this was a great way to celebrate his birthday because of his love for balloons.
“This is great,” said Ricky Nelson, Maleek’s father. “This is what I wanted. This is what everybody wants to see for Maleek because today is his day. Today is his birthday. This is what it is. This is what Maleek loves to do. He was a people’s person.”
In addition to Saturday’s event, this week the Lima Police Department also dedicated the playground at Safety City in his name.
