LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — They’re learning skills that help them understand the meaning of community service.

Bath High School’s Interact Club, sponsored by the Lima Rotary Club, is 75 members strong and committed to giving back. While each student is required to complete at least 24 hours of community service per year, many go far beyond that.

Club members—ranging from freshmen to seniors—volunteer for a variety of activities, including packing boxes for the West Ohio Food Bank, supporting Operation Christmas Child, and hosting numerous events at Bath High School.

“I think it’s important just so that we can help Bath High School and help our community,” said Hale Hensley, president of the Interact Club. “Just get ourselves out there and help others, because there’s not enough help in the world. One of our most recent [events], one of my favorites, is the Ottawa River Cleanup. We always find just random things, and it’s always a lot of fun.”

By the time they reach their senior year, some students have logged more than 200 hours of volunteer service.

On Monday, the Lima Rotary Club recognized students who completed at least 24 hours of service this school year during a special meeting.
