Bellefontaine Ave. closes for next phase of grade separation project

Bellefontaine Avenue is now closed for work on the next phase of the grade separation project.

The road officially closed at 7 a.m. and will remain that way for the next seven days. Crews will be building a temporary railroad bypass for the construction of the elm street railroad underpass bridge. City Engineer Kirk Niemeyer says that work is about 10 days behind schedule due to different factors, but they are working to get everything done. Niemeyer says that there is more work on Bellefontaine Avenue that will be coming soon.

"We will be starting the storm sewer along Bellefontaine Avenue in front of Stadium Park, so that’s coming up - we’ve got three lanes of traffic there so we'll be able to still keep traffic moving in each direction," Niemeyer said.

Until the roads are back open, truck traffic will be detoured to Pine Street, Saint John's Avenue, Fourth Street and I-75. Local traffic is encouraged to use Kibby, High, or North Street to avoid construction.
