LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) Students at Ohio State Lima heard from a local graduate about his unique experience as one of the university’s iconic mascots.

Elida High School graduate Keaton Greeley spoke about his time as “Brutus the Buckeye” while studying chemical engineering at Ohio State. Greeley served as Brutus from 2013 to 2016, performing at football, basketball and other athletic events, while also making appearances across campus and in the community. He told students the role required a lot of time and commitment, but also taught him important life lessons.

Some of the biggest lessons I took was, if I could put on this costume and get in front of 100,000 people and be silly and be an idiot, I could face any adversity. I could take on anything in that way,” Greeley said.

After graduating, Greeley returned to Allen County and now works as an engineer at Nutrien in Lima.

He encouraged students to put themselves out there, take opportunities when they come and consider building their futures back home in the Lima region.
