LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Bowlers came out to Westgate Entertainment Center to support Big Brothers Big Sisters at one of their biggest annual fundraisers on Saturday.
For over twenty years, the agency has held Bowl for Kids' Sake, where, for a donation, bowlers can enjoy two games, unlimited pizza and drinks, and plenty of raffles and opportunities to win prizes. Money raised by the event helps Big Brothers Big Sisters continue their in-school mentorship programs and helps them pay for everything they need to recruit new bigs. For the 4th year, local departments also got involved with their Battle of the First Responders.
"The first responders come, and so what they do, it's $100 for them to participate, and then every dollar that they raise beyond that is considered a point. So, their initial $100 plus whatever money they bring in, and then that's added to their first game of bowling. So, the money that they raise plus their bowling score equals the championship. You don't have to be a great bowler, but you can be an awesome fundraiser," explained Fran Biaglow, the executive assistant for Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio.
This year, two teams from the Lima Fire Department and a team from the Mercy Health Lima Allen County Paramedics competed in the Battle of the First Responders.
