BLUFFTON, OH (WLIO) - Bluffton University showing off its newest science building to the public and the donors that helped bring the facility to life.
This semester is the first that students have been able to use the newly completed Knowlton Science Center. The ten-million-dollar building holds six lab spaces for students studying fields like biology, chemistry, and food science. The new labs come with more modern equipment to help immerse students in the course material, and better prepare them for the technology they will use day to day when they enter the workforce.
"Whether you're going into a hospital, doctor's office, engineering, business, almost any field you can imagine, understanding and being able to work with technology is important. And being able to adapt to different kinds of technology is important, and this lab allows us to do that," said Jane Wood, president of Bluffton University.
One local business owner and alum who helped fund the food science facility says this will make Bluffton provide even more quality future employees for local businesses and healthcare providers.
"The university is really positioned well to attract students who want to extend their studies in the food business, or the other science and things. We met a student downstairs whose aspiration is to go into the medical profession, so I think Bluffton is in a great position right now with that," said Greg Wannemacher, donor and CEO of Wannemacher Enterprises.
The Knowlton Science Center will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon on homecoming, October 21st.
