Experts say 75 to 80 percent of all child car seats are installed incorrectly, making them more dangerous. The health department wants to help change that number.Â
The Putnam County Health Department sponsored a child car seat check at the Putnam County Educational Service Center. Car seat technicians were available to assist with properly installing car seats and answering questions regarding child safety seat installation laws. "Typically we find the seat is not installed properly, they might have the seat belt going through the wrong path, they might not have the tethers in correctly, the tether might not be working with the latch system they have going on. we kind of explain all that to them, seats can be very confusing, there is lots of buckles and belts to use."
The law states a child needs to be in a safety seat until they are eight years of age or four feet nine inches tall. If you missed the car seat check you can schedule an appointment, free of charge with the Putnam County Health Department. The number to call is 419-523-5608.
