ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - As gun deer season continues, more cases of chronic wasting disease are being discovered in more Ohio counties.
One deer killed in Jackson Township in Allen County was confirmed to have the fatal disease that affects the brain and central nervous system. It is also called zombie deer disease, because of how the deer acts. A total of 8 counties have had confirmed cases of chronic wasting disease, six, including Allen County, were added since the deer hunting season started. Deer harvested in Allen County are not required to get tested, but the Ohio Department of Wildlife is asking hunters to voluntarily get their deer tested to track the spread of the disease.
