LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The City of Lima is recruiting small contractors to mow parcels in the city.
A Mowing Expo was held to help guide applicants through the process to bid for mowing contract work with the City of Lima. Experts on taxes, workman's compensation, insurance, and other topics were present to give one-on-one help to the contractors and small business owners preparing to place their bids.
In the past, the city has contracted the mowing to two large companies, but they split those areas into more parcels to put more money back into the hands of smaller local companies.
"The importance is to get it out there to give more people an opportunity, smaller businesses that wouldn't think about mowing for the City of Lima because it's always been such a big project. Now that it's smaller, it's more manageable, it'll give them the opportunity to check it out, see if it's something they'd like, and move forward with it, and help their families with income," said Angie Rex, a property maintenance code inspector and supervisor for the City of Lima.
