Wintry weather is back and after warmer than normal temperatures up until now Mother Nature is confusing plants that have already started to bloom.
Over at the Children’s Garden in Lima there’s a number of flowers that have emerged and bloomed like daffodils.
With temperatures set to hit the teens or possibly the single digits next week is there anything we can do to keep what’s already here?
“It’s not very reasonable to expect to be able to cover everything. If you have some particularly valuable plants you can try to mulch them up with some of the leaves and rake some of the mulch from other open areas and protect them somewhat but really there is not very reasonable to expect to be able to try and save everything in our landscape,” said Gretchen Staley an Allen County Master Gardener.
Staley says you might as well pick some of the plants and bring them inside to enjoy because most likely the cold temperatures will kill the flowers that have already bloomed.
