It's 110 years old, but has a lot of potential to fill some needs in Allen County.
The president of Council of the Arts of Greater Lima, Bart Mills met with the Allen County Commissioners, giving them an update on the Memorial Hall project. The council started this process to look at reopening the hall about two years ago. They've conducted a feasibility study on the building, which says it's structurally sound. They have completed over forty interviews, with local people and others from around the state, about what kind of needs we have in our area and how Memorial Hall could fill those needs. Mills says some ideas they collected include education, the arts and economic development
“Economic Development is doing a great job right now in terms of workforce development, but there is still a need for those sort of creative economy jobs. That’s design, architecture things that, we can create space to incubate young entrepreneurs to come to Lima.” commented Bart Mills, The Council of the Arts of Greater Lima.
Mills says they will be working with an architect in the next few months to create renderings of what they want Memorial Hall to look like, and look for any tax credits to help with the renovations. He adds it will take around 2 million dollars to do the work on the building.
