Allen County commissioners say they are moving forward with the possible creation of an Allen County Building Department.
Commissioners holding a phone conference with the director of the Miami County Building Department. Discussions between the two have been ongoing for nearly a year. Commissioners say they want a change and believe Miami County can provide that.
"Really what we're doing is, is they're proving the opportunity, they've got a process they work through, they came up with it, a lot of other counties are taking advantage of it, we're one of those, when you see something that's good, you go with it," said Greg Sneary, Allen County Commissioner.
The new building department would need to be staffed and that is where Miami County would possibly come into play. The Lima Allen County Building Department is asking the county to use them as a viable option for staffing.
"We have experience, we have knowledge of local builders, we have assembled a great team of persons who are certified and who have the ability to and or in the process of gaining even more certifications so we can be responsive to the Allen County building community," said Howard Elstro, Lima Public Works Director.
Commissioners hope to have a final decision and vote within the next month.
