ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - It happens a lot more than we may think, as 1 in 4 women and 1 in 26 men become victims of it.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Crime Victim Services wants to raise awareness of its prevalence in Allen County. The agency offers the "Day One" program, which provides comprehensive advocacy and recovery services to survivors of sexual violence in Allen, Putnam, Hardin, and Van Wert counties. They also have licensed crisis counselors standing by 24/7.
Day One Advocate Erica Hawkins says, “Sexual violence is prevalent here in Allen County. It happens a lot more than we think. In our Day One department at Crime Victim Services, we really just work with sexual violence survivors and human trafficking survivors.”
They are asking you to wear teal on Thursday, April 4th, to show support for sexual violence survivors, along with wearing denim on the 26th. You are also invited to the Bradfield Community Center on Friday, April 26th, for their "Pound and Paint" event featuring cardio drumming, painting, cookies, and fun from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
