LIMA, OH (WLIO) – A Lima man who was sentenced for shooting at police officers during a standoff has lost his appeal to reduce his sentence.
Mark Seffernick, 61, was sentenced in 2024 to 15 years in prison on five counts of felonious assault with gun specifications. Seffernick appealed the mandatory sentences on the counts, which ran consecutively, arguing the judge imposed them solely “to protect the public.”
His attorneys argued that Seffernick had no prior felony record and that no one was injured during the incident. However, the appeals court judges upheld the trial court’s decision.
In July of 2023, officers were called to Seffernick's home after he allegedly threatened another man with a gun. Police say Seffernick barricaded himself inside the home and fired shots outside. He later surrendered without incident.
