DELPHOS, OH (WLIO) - As Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to an end, multiple communities stepped up to provide supplies for a local shelter.
Crossroads Crisis Center set up in front of the Chief Supermarket locations in Lima, Bluffton, and Delphos on Saturday to raise donations as part of Make a Difference Day. Grocery shoppers were given a wishlist of household items like toilet paper, trash bags, and soap before entering the stores, and then could pick up whatever they were able to donate. Crossroads always accepts donations, but the majority of their stock of these particular necessary goods are provided by this annual donation drive.
"It shows that there really is good in people. When you ask someone to donate, the majority of the time they say yes. They donate whatever they can to us, they donate money, items. And it really means everything to us," said Olivia DePalma, the outreach coordinator for Crossroads.
Last year alone, Crossroads Crisis Center provided shelter to 726 survivors of domestic violence.
