The crimes reported here are preliminary investigations, taken in the field by deputies, and may or may not be assigned to a Detective for further investigation. The information provided may be found after further investigation to be incorrect or false. Certain details of these incidents have been removed due to potential follow-up investigation into the incident and/or for privacy rights.

Wednesday December 12, 2024

0717 hrs. – Deputies along with Wren Fire and Convoy EMS responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Convoy Heller Road in Harrison Township. The incident was investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

0811 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on North Washington Street in the City of Van Wert to check the welfare of a dog.

1154 hrs. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Van Wert County Common Pleas Court for a probation violation. Joshua J. Carroll age 37 of Saint Mary’s is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

1239 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Griswold Street in the Village of Middle Point for a stray dog.

1814 hrs. – Deputies took a report of a motor vehicle crash on Jackson Street in the Village of Middle Point. Unit One, a 2022 Ford Explorer driven by Mason Speith, was backing into the driveway of the Middle Point Fire House when it struck a pole in front of the Fire station. No injuries were reported.

2041 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Dog Creek Road in Washington Township to contact a resident.

2332 hrs. – Deputies attempted to stop a subject on a bicycle in the area of George and Lincoln Streets in the City of Van Wert. The subject fled on foot. K9 Ajax tracked the suspect to a garage on Woodland Avenue. Consent to search the garage was granted by the property owner, and the suspect was found lying on the ground inside the garage. The subject has been charged with a Fourth Degree Misdemeanor Criminal Trespass, and Second Degree misdemeanor Obstructing Official Business. Jeffrey Lee Allen Kallas age 24 of Van Wert is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.
