Despite Low Rainfall, Lima Water Supply Still Abundant

Even though rainfall has been sparse so far this summer, the water supply here in town remains abundant. Officials with the utilities department say they were able to fill all the reservoirs in Lima this spring with water from the Auglaize and Ottawa Rivers. The Williams Reservoir alone holds about 5 billion gallons of water, about a third of the city's total water supply. The water from the reservoirs is used for commercial, residential and industrial properties.

"We've only had a few rains so far this summer and they came with such magnitude, they just ran off quick and we really didn't get a chance to do a lot of pumping on either one of the last two rains, so fortunately we have Williams Reservoir. We're in really good shape right now and I'm sure come fall we'll be able to fill everything back up," said Mike Caprella, Deputy Director of Utilities in Lima.

Caprella says even if it didn't rain again until next spring, they would still have enough water saved up in the local reservoirs.Â
