LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Ohio's workforce is changing, and parents, colleges, and tech schools need to keep up to make sure our young people are prepared. That was the message from Stephen Dackin, the director of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, at this morning's Wake, Rattle and Roll meeting.

Dackin says the state has been active in backing the skilled trades, setting aside $200 million dollars to expand capacity at Ohio's tech centers and another $100 million in equipment grants.

He says preparing tomorrow's workers starts when they're young by making sure kids have a love of reading by emphasizing the importance of literacy. Then it's making sure our colleges and tech schools have the resources and support they need to train people for a wide range of vocations in Ohio.

"We need engineers, doctors, PhDs, but we also need plumbers, electricians, technicians, and other kinds of jobs. The great news is there's plenty of jobs in Ohio to be filled. The bad news is that we have a declining birth rate and aging baby boomers out, so we need to figure out how to make every able-bodied person in our state employable," stated Stephen Dackin, the director of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
