Don Diglia was named to the post on Tuesday, and Wednesday was his first day on the job. Diglia served as Elida's superintendent for 10 years and 6 years at Ayersville; he took 2 years off before going for the Shawnee job.

He says it is like a homecoming because he started his administrative career at Shawnee as an assistant principal.

"The neat thing about Shawnee is the tradition of excellence it has, and I just want to be a part of that and continue that legacy. I was able to meet with a lot of staff members today, and they are just so dedicated to meeting the students," said Don Diglia, Shawnee School's superintendent.

Over his long tenure in education, Diglia says the most important thing he has learned is that the field is always changing.

"And the needs of our students is always changing. The field of education, I think, is more and more difficult because of some of the challenges that our students bring to us, and we need to adapt and change the way we do things to meet their needs. It is all about meeting the needs of our students and seeing them flourish and grow," adds Diglia.

Diglia says he was grateful to start the job while the school was in session and says there will be a lot of work to do over the summer when graduation is done.
