Drain found competent to stand trial

A Findlay man accused of strangling an acquaintance to death in May has been found competent to stand trial for murder, and he has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

After two mental evaluations, 34-year-old Joel Drain has been found competent to stand trial for the murder 56-year-old Randy Grose. Drain is facing charges of aggravated murder, grand theft of a motor vehicle and retaliation. Drain is accused of strangling Grose to death in Grose's home on May 14th., and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Officials say Drain also stabbed the victim multiple times in the head and abdomen, but according to the coroner's report it was the strangulation that killed him. He also stole the victim's car.

Drain remains in the Hancock County Jail on a one million dollar bond, where he is awaiting his next hearing scheduled for July 11th.
