LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Now is the time that some Lima City School students are looking to choose a possible career path.
Lima Senior High sophomores get a chance to learn more about the 12 career tech plans that the school offers for juniors and seniors. They had the chance to move from station to station to talk with instructors and current students about the courses. The class offerings range from agriculture to audio engineering and culinary to construction trades. Students already enrolled in a career tech program shared about the programs, and instructors shared about where these courses could take them.
"We learn how to do new skills and just learn how to take care of people in a well-respected manner. Just give great ideas and ways to learn how to adapt to situations to where we really have to take care of people. It sets us up for a good future," commented Terrionna Bagley, junior and patient care technology at Lima City Schools.
"Our welding program, he's brags all the time, he's got 7 seniors that are making 29 dollars an hour right after they leave high school. They're not going to college, they're not doing any other training, but they walk out of there with credentials that will allow them to make good money when they leave high school," stated Frank Kohlhofer, career tech director at Lima City Schools.
The students will have to make a decision by Friday as registration for the programs starts at 7:30 a.m. and they fill up quickly. Instructors will be on hand in the cafeteria at that time to help students who need assistance to sign up.
