Eye in the Sky

Trooper Pilot, George King, was a hawk in the sky while flying over I-75 on Tuesday. As a pilot with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, King finds a car traveling faster than the flow of traffic, records vehicle's their quarter mile times and radios down to a ground unit who pulls the driver over.

On the ground, Lt. Brant Zemelka confronts the speeders, many of which are surprised to have been caught. Zemelka says because only some states use the aviation unit, many drivers are surprised when he comes off of the on ramp and hits the lights.

The use of an aviation unit and the air speed zones is something that started back in 1960, and something that is practiced all over the state. Those drivers who choose to fight the ticket are in for an uphill battle, as their speed was calculated using calibrated stopwatches and using old fashioned math (Distance/Time.)
