BLUFFTON, OH (WLIO) - The Village of Bluffton found a way to always remember the officers that lost their lives serving and protecting their community. Saturday morning, the police department unveiled the new Fallen Officers Memorial in front of the town hall. There are three officers’ names on the memorial, Owen Grandstaff and Frank Hermann who were killed in the 1920s, and Dominic Francis who was killed last year. It only took Lt. Matt Oglesbee a little over a year to get the project from a vision to a lasting monument. Because when the Bluffton community heard about the Fallen Officers Memorial, they were ready to help pay tribute to the men who died protecting them.
“Our community is very supportive, they've always been supportive. Even before Officer Francis was killed back in March of ’22. So, that brought the community even closer,” says Lt. Matt Oglesbee, Bluffton Police Department. “So, when the word got out that we were working on a Fallen Officers Memorial the community just started stepping up. “How can we help? What can we do?” I started raising the funds that were needed within probably two months’ time.”
Members of the Ohio House and Senate each recognized the Bluffton Police Department for their efforts in honoring their fallen officers.
