Just before three o'clock, the Bath Fire Department was called out to an apartment complex in the 2200 block of East Elm Street.

The fire started in one of the apartment buildings and jumped to a neighboring building as firefighters arrived. Everyone was able to get out of their apartment safely. Mutual aid was called in from six neighboring fire departments to provide manpower.
"Because of the extreme heat today, we did call in more mutual aid units than we probably would so we could rotate them with fresh firefighters from area departments. Bath Township is very thankful for its relationships with our nearby departments and everybody that came today helped us and we certainly appreciate it," said Chief Joseph Kitchen, Bath Fire Department. "We're working with investigators at this time, it does not appear to be suspicious. I don't have an exact cause, it will remain under investigation and we'll continue to pinpoint an exact cause on this fire."
Kitchen says that there are six apartments that are not livable and the Red Cross has been called in to assist the families.
