Former WLIO reporter and anchor Mike Bowersock has died in Chicago following a sudden illness.
Bowersock began his television career here in his hometown in 1984, staying until 1986.
During his time here, he reported and he sat in the anchor chair for the 6pm news.
Mike's career took him to Toledo, Columbus, Detroit and back to Columbus, where he reported for NBC affiliate WCMH from 1989 to 1994 and again from 2004 to 2015.
Bowersock was a much decorated reporter, garnering 4 EMMY's, 5 awards from the Associated Press, and was named 'best street reporter' in Detroit in 2000 by the Detroit Free Press.
Mike was known for his excellent storytelling, and knowing him personally, for his quick wit and pleasant demeanor.
Mike spent time in Kuwait covering the Gulf War and was embedded with the Ohio National Guard in Afghanistan in 2011. Mike was recently named a public affairs officer with the Ohio National Guard.
The Lima Central Catholic graduate leaves behind his wife Lisa, also a Lima native, the two meeting while working here at Your Hometown Stations.
Lisa, along with their 4 children were at Mike's bedside when he died Sunday night. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
