LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - One thing every child needs to thrive in school is food, and a state-wide business hosted a meeting to make sure food is available to every child in Lima City.

Children’s Hunger Alliance gives meals and food for students who may not receive it at home. Founded in 1970, this statewide nonprofit organization is dedicated to ending childhood hunger. With over 10.1 million meals served in Ohio last year, CHA aims to help Lima’s community next. They hosted a meeting with local business owners, school members, and others interested in the cause to raise funds for Lima.

"We know that there are about 1 in 5 kids whose families are struggling to put food on the table, and so the more people who understand what the issues are, the more people will get involved because there are solutions to these issues. There are meal programs that CHA provides and there's other school programs, so we just want to get the community behind the work," says Melissa Brown, CEO and president of Children's Hunger Alliance.

By having business owners, elected officials, and superintendents at this meeting, some of Lima’s leaders were able to understand how important it is to keep children from going hungry. If you would like information on children's hunger alliance, check out childrenshungeralliance.org
