A grease fire at the Cam Court Apartments in Shawnee Township left one person's home completely destroyed. The Shawnee Township Fire Department, along with American Township, responded to the fire around 12:35 this afternoon. Shawnee fire chief says something on the stove was left unattended and caught fire. Fortunately, the apartment had working fire alarms, so that resident and those in surrounding units were able to get out safely.
"The occupant was in the structure when the fire started upstairs and got alerted by the smoke detector and she was able to get notified and come out and then get all the neighbors out. Everybody's safe so that's the big thing and smoke detectors definitely worked today," Shawnee Twp. Fire Chief Todd Truesdale, said.
Truesdale says the apartment where the fire started had to be completely gutted, but the surrounding units only had minor damage. Red Cross will be on hand to help those affected.
