COLUMBUS, Ohio — The state announced $7.3 million in grants to help Ohio counties demolish unsafe or deteriorated buildings.

The funding comes from the latest round of projects under the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program, part of Gov. Mike DeWine’s initiative to make way for new development.

Ohio’s two-year budget sets aside $21.5 million per fiscal year for the program, with each of the state’s 88 counties guaranteed $230,000.

Locally, Hancock, Putnam and Van Wert counties received funding.

Hancock County will use $32,380 for projects at 19551 U.S. Route 68 in Arlington and 11359 Township Road 30 in Forest.

Putnam County received $58,850 for sites at 145 Truax Road in Cloverdale, 500 Main St. in Belmore and 3622 State Route 108 in Leipsic.

Van Wert County was awarded $184,800 for a project at 122 S. Main St. in Ohio City.

Grant recipients have until May 1 to identify all project sites.
