LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Students at Heir Force Community School were given the opportunity to learn all things tech in a hands-on type of course.

AT&T has provided funding for hands-on training for all types of computer knowledge. Students from Bluffton are leading this course, giving them an opportunity to be mentors for students. This includes computer literacy, mobile device understanding, email basics, cybersecurity, and safety on the internet. Each Thursday, selected students gather to learn more about the given topic, and this week, they were able to play a cybersecurity-themed Jeopardy. Teaching students about technology not only is important for their safety but can show them a potential career path they might want to pursue.

Hands-on tech training empowers students at Heir Force Community School

"But it's just another initiative for us to be able to help kids hone in on their critical thinking skills, help kids get prepare for thinking what the future workforce is going to look like," says Willie Heggins III, executive director, Heir Force Community Schools.

"So, the AT&T Foundation supported through a grant the programs at Heir Force Community School to get those students actually in those real-world objectives and real-world projects," says Jan Bans, senior director, state external, legislative/regulatory affairs, AT&T.

By teaching students hands-on learning about technology around them, they will be better equipped for the future and may have a passion for it.
