Two Kenton police officers were at the scene when firefighters arrived, attempting to use a fire extinguisher on flames at the apartment door. Fire crews entered the apartment and found Cain, who was in a wheelchair, in his kitchen. He was pulled from the apartment and taken to the hospital.

The fire was contained to Cain’s apartment, causing only minor smoke damage to three neighboring units. Mutual aid was provided by Mt. Victory and Richland Township fire departments. The Ohio State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
