MOUNT VICTORY, Ohio (WLIO) - One man is dead and another is in custody after a stabbing overnight in Mount Victory.

The Hardin County sheriff said 48-year-old James Collins died from multiple stab wounds in an incident that happened late Sunday in the village.

Deputies were called just after midnight and found Collins wounded in the street. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Deputies took 46-year-old Andrew McCafferty into custody as a suspect in the stabbing. Charges are still pending as the investigation continues.

The Hardin County Central Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call on October 1st, 2025 at 0003 hours regarding a stabbing incident in Mount Victory, Ohio.

Responding Sheriff deputies arrived to find James Collins, 48, of Mount Victory in the street suffering from several stab wounds. Mr. Collins was treated by EMTs with Southeast Hardin Northwest Union Fire Department and he was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries a short time later.

Suspect Andrew McCafferty, 46, of Mount Victory was taken into custody and charges are pending in connection with this incident.

Assisting at the scene were Southeast Hardin Northwest Union Fire Department, Hardin County Prosecutor, Hardin County Coroner, and Route 31 Towing.
