It's considered one of the most natural things for a mother to do for their child but it can still cause controversy if done in public.
August has been designated Breastfeeding Awareness Month and the Ohio Department of Health is working to make breastfeeding the cultural standard for Ohio infants. The nutritional education program WIC reports that 79% of U.S. mothers initiate breastfeeding, but only 49% continue after 6 months. Breastfeeding in public is protected in all 50 states but some mothers still run into situations where businesses ask them to stop. Allen County WIC has resources to help businesses become more breastfeeding friendly.
