Students at Independence Elementary got a lesson in conducting Tuesday morning thanks to the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
Roger Kalia stopped by the school to talk to students about his experiences as a professional musician, conductor, and educator. He also wants to encourage the students to think about getting involved in music as they get older. Kalia is one of seven candidates that are auditioning to be the next conductor of the Lima Symphony Orchestra. He says that he would like to continue many of the things that the orchestra is already doing if he's chosen as the next conductor.
"First thing is, the musicians; they're unbelievably talented. They come from all over the state," said Roger Kalia, Lima Symphony Conducting Candidate. "And to be able to work with such dedicated and talented musicians is really important to me and the other thing is, the things that the Lima Symphony is doing the community, going to the public schools, the Music Through Healing program, they are so engaged in the community and that's something that I want to build upon."
Kalia will be conducting the Lima Symphony Orchestra on December 14th for the "Bells, Brass, and Bows" concert.
