LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Organizers have finalized plans for this year's Juneteenth Celebration in downtown Lima, inviting the community to take part in a day of culture, education and entertainment commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

The celebration will begin with the second annual Juneteenth Parade at 11 a.m. The parade will depart from Northland Plaza and travel south to Lima's Town Square, where a full afternoon of activities is planned. Organizers say the event has become one of the most anticipated cultural celebrations in Allen County and is designed to bring people together while highlighting the significance of Juneteenth.

"We just want to keep that front and foremost as the reason we're having this event to make it interactive for everyone involved. It's open to anybody that wants to come and just fellowship, learn, meet people, network, and just enjoy a day of fun and activities and being positive all day long," said Marc Wright, chairperson of the Juneteenth Celebration.

Following the parade, attendees can enjoy live music, visual arts displays, youth activities, food trucks and a business pop-up zone in Town Square. Activities will continue throughout the afternoon and conclude at 6 p.m.

Organizers encourage residents from across the region to attend and learn more about the history and significance of Juneteenth while enjoying a family-friendly community event. Those interested in participating in the parade can register online at JuneteenthParadeLima.com.
