A new partnership is bringing "Juneteenth" back to the Lima community.

The Council for the Arts of Greater Lima and the Sigma Mu Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority announced that the "Juneteenth Celebration" will be on Saturday, June 22nd at the Dr. Martin Luther King Park. It's a celebration of the abolition of slavery and is celebrated in June as this is when the last state, Texas, was informed of President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. The day has evolved into a celebration of black achievement and community togetherness. Organizers say it's also a way to remember and educate people about this important time in history.
