Justice Sharon Kennedy spoke to Allen County Republicans about Veterans Courts

Ohio has the 6th largest veteran population in the country, but Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon Kennedy says there is more we can be doing for our vets.

Kennedy spoke to the Allen County Republican Luncheon at the Eagles Lodge about America's many freedoms, and that we have them because we have millions of people who are dedicated to protecting them. She says there is more we can be doing to help our veterans, like advocating for more Veteran Treatment Courts. Veteran Treatment Courts are similar to drug or mental health courts in that they recognize the people in them may have a special set of needs as a result of their military service.

"What if we could recognize them and understand the issues that they're facing psychologically, physically, as a result of their service, and what if we connect them to the services that already exist?" says Kennedy. "Isn't that really what we should be doing to serve our veterans and pay back for their service to all of us?"

Right now, 17 Ohio counties have Veteran Treatment Court options available. Kennedy says the only way to increase accessibility of Veteran Treatment Courts in Ohio is to get the conversation going about what more we can be doing for our vets.
