As some choose to set off fireworks to celebrate the new year - those loud explosions may not be as exciting for some.
Some of those people that could be affected by the fireworks are veterans. Tamara Curtis with the Allen County Veterans Service Commission says that many veterans face post-traumatic stress disorder after serving their time, and hearing loud noises like fireworks could potentially cause some problems for those dealing with PTSD.
Curtis recommends letting veteran neighbors know if you plan on setting off fireworks to ring in 2019.
"Give them a courtesy call, go next door and have a conversation with them and forewarn them before it actually happens; give them time to actually prepare themselves or even leave the house if they don't want to be around that and hear those loud noises, things that may set off a trigger," Curtis said.
And as a reminder - fireworks are illegal in the state of Ohio, but some people may be shooting them off anyway.
