LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Eleven grants have been awarded to local churches and faith-based organizations to support their efforts to help others in the community.
Activate Allen County and Mercy Health announced the winners of the Activate Faith Challenge, distributing just over $10,000 in funding. Individual grants ranged from $500 to $1,000 and are intended to support programs that promote health and well-being.
Recipients say the funding will make a meaningful impact on their outreach efforts and community services.

“Our vision for the funds will be to hold a Senior Health Fair sometime later this year to include topics like blood screens and physical fitness or physical therapy sessions and other wellness topics for our senior community,” says Bill Stratton, Trinity United Methodist Church, Spencerville.
“In partnership with Andrew's House of Hope that Elm Street Church in the Nazarene, we're going to be using these funds to purchase a refrigerator and a stove for the ladies that are going to be moving into the recovery house right next to the church that we're currently in the process of remodeling,” says Jonathan Burkey, Elm St. Church of the Nazarene.
“One of the best things is that we're able to support organizations that are the front lines, that are meeting our community, where they're at when they have needs. They're you know, a lot of times reaching out to our faith communities and to be able to support them financially means the world,” says Chad Welker, Associate Dir. Activate Allen County.
