Kiss the Cow at Kalida Elementary

Kalida Elementary's principal challenged her students to read more, and since they did - she had to kiss a cow.

The challenge came along with the book fair at school, for students to read for 10,000 minutes by the end of the week.  The students were able to make that goal in three days, and made the additional 5,000 minutes that the principal tacked on after that.  Since the students reached the goal, the principal, the janitor, and special guest, the Grinch, had to kiss a real live cow.

The challenge's main purpose was to get more youngsters reading at school.

"I think because they were challenged, maybe kids that didn't normally pick up books picked up books and said, 'hey, it's fun to read, I can get lost into a whole different world by jumping into a book,' and I think we succeeded in that," said Elida Elementary librarian Adriene Swyers.

The principal also dressed as a pirate to go along with the book fair's pirate theme.
