"Let's Talk"

The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board is kicking off a campaign to help parents talk to their children about sensitive topics.

The campaign is called "Let's Talk" and it gives parents the tools to be able to discuss tricky issues.  This involves letting children know about their strengths, the harmful effects of drugs, and suicide.  Talking about these topics early on can help children, and parents can be the best resource of support for their kids.

"I think parents don't realize the impact that they have on their children," said Mike Schoenhofer, Executive Director of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.  "Parents still are the most important people in their children's lives, and when they talk to their children directly about drugs, about their strengths and their assets, and keeping an eye on them if they're thinking about suicide."

The campaign is expected to reach parents in January or February.
