The coalition is made up of first responders, nonprofit agencies, and Lima Memorial Health System and Mercy Health-Saint Rita's hospitals, all of which are working to make the roads and community safer.

"It's a great thing to be able to be a part of the Safe Community Coalition here at St. Rita's. As a trauma center, part of what we do is injury prevention throughout the community. So, this group gives us an avenue to work with different community partners, whether it's law enforcement, the Highway Patrol, the Sheriff's Office, local police, or local fire & EMS. We get to partner with them and go out into the community and take the message of safety and injury prevention to different groups throughout our community," says Brian Anderson, EMS, Trauma, and Injury Prevention Coordinator for Mercy Health-St. Rita's.

The coalition also reviews crash data, and this year the number of fatal crashes has been lower than in some past years.
