Lima City Council hears update on major infrastructure project

An update discussed, at Monday night's Lima City Council meeting, on a major infrastructure project in the city.

Utilities Director Mike Caprella gave more on the status of the 13 million gallon combined sewer overflow Simmons Field tank project. That $40 million project is currently underway, breaking ground last week. It comes after years of planning and negotiations with the EPA and when finished, the tank will be 400 feet long, 200 feet wide, and 25 feet deep. It's expected to take about three years to complete, to help reduce the number of overflows that happen in the Ottawa River after heavy rains.

This project will not impact any Lima Locos baseball games. Council also okayed a contract with the Ohio Department of Transportation to buy 1,800 tons of rock salt for the 2018-2019 winter season.
